    Dear Friends,

Welcome to all our friends in the cause for interfaith understanding! A special welcome is in order to all those joining as e-Letter Subscribers for the first time. Our recent campaign to move further away from paper and into electronics has been warmly received and a number of new subscribers has been the result.

We hope that all enjoy receiving very timely information as to Center activities and find the brevity of the format and lack of high-storage attachments refreshing.

    Spring Newsletter Now On-Line

One important by-product of moving to electronics is that we can inexpensively offer more information and viewing options as an advantage over print production. The Sprint Edition of our Newsletter is going out to homes, however, the cost of an expensive photo print layout was prohibitive.

But, you can now view a complete Spring Newsletter, to include photos from the Eternal Light Award Dinner (as held in February) on-line! Just click onto the icon at left and give it a few seconds to load. You will not lose this e-Letter by doing so. The photos may be viewed from the home page or directly by clicking to "Photos from..." immediately below.

Board Meeting Lecture by Rabbi Rudin

Rabbi A. James Rudin provided a lecture titled "Rev. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martyred German, Anti- nazi, 'Protestant Saint': An Examination of His Views on Jews and Judaism" at the April 16th Center Board Meeting in Sun City, FL. A number of invited guests also were present to join the Board of Directors in listening to the provocative and interesting lecture along with a luncheon.

Rabbi Rudin is a noted speaker and author who recently had received the Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies' 8th Annual Eternal Light Award for his life's work in interfaith understanding and dialogue. In the lecture he explored from a Jewish perspective the complex life, times and legacy of the famous German Lutheran and anti-Nazi pastor, the Reverend Deitrich Bonhoeffer who was murdered by the Nazis at age 39 in 1945.

$10,000 Payment Kicks off New Endowment

On April 16th the Board of the Center for Catholic- Jewish Studies established the "Rabbi A. James Rudin Endowment for Interreligious Studies" with the intent of providing lasting programs and educational benefits to support interfaith education and dialogue. The endowment is expected to grow over the years as others participate. Only limited proceeds from the fund will be drawn thus building programming for the future.

A check for $10,000 was set aside as a result of the Eternal Light Award Dinner solely for this lasting purpose and in honor of our faithful Rabbi Rudin. As our summer 2007 planning efforts unfold, more information will become available concerning ways in which the public will be able to share in this legacy by adding to the endowment.

Shown in photo is Rabbi Rudin (right) with Center Chair Gail Whiting and David Ostrander (center), Vice President of Advancement at Saint Leo University holding the initial $10,000 check. David was instrumental in assisting with the mechanics of establishing the endowment.
