| Florida Holocaust Museum Debuts Exhibit Highlighting Relationship Between Pope John Paul II and the Jewish People |
|
| Pope John Paul II Exemplified Interreligious Appreciation
On January 13th The Florida Holocaust Museum debuted A Blessing to One Another: Pope John Paul II and the Jewish People, an exhibit that traces the late pope's relationship with the Jewish community throughout his life.
The exhibit wonderfully depicts John Paul's affection and appreciation for the Jewish people, a disposition dating back to his childhood roots and communal experience in Poland. John Paul's affirmation of and empathy for the Jewish people only intensified as he witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust and the Second World War. The late pope's determined, resolved and irrevocable commitment to dialogue and understanding between the Catholic and Jewish faith communities was a definitive dimension of his ministerial life, particularly his pontificate.
This beautiful exhibit provides all who are committed to inter-religious dialogue and mutual understanding with a leader and teacher who instructed by personal example and witness. To learn more about the exhibit and the Florida Holocaust Museum, please Click Here |
| Ninth Annual Eternal Light Award Dinner to be held Sunday March 9th at 5:00 PM |
|
The Saint Petersburg Yacht Club will serve as our venue as we recognize the three creators of the exhibit, A Blessing to One Another: Pope John Paul II and the Jewish People. Rabbi Abie Ingber of the University of Cincinnati, and Drs. John P. Buchanan and William Madges of Xavier University will be our honored guests, accepting the Eternal Light Award for their collaborative work in creating this interactive exhibit and tribute to the late pope.

Their work is an inspiration to all who are committed to interreligious collaboration, and their exhibit a great contribution to the recounting and celebration of advances made in Catholic-Jewish relations over the past 30 years.
If you would like to join us in recognizing these three leaders and teachers, please join us for the Eternal Light Award Dinner. All who attend the Eternal Light Award Dinner are invited to a special showing of the exhibit at the Florida Holocaust Museum on the evening of March 27, 2008, from 5:00-7:30 PM, and will also be eligible for discounted admission to the exhibit. | David Harris, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, Offers Assessments of Current Jewish Affairs |
|

A crowd of several hundred gathered at Temple Beth Israel in Longboat Key on the evening of January 14, 2008, as David Harris delivered an impassioned and engaging talk offering his assessment of current promises and challenges facing the Jewish community, both in the United States and globally.
Pertinent to our mission, work and objectives here at the Center for Catholic Jewish Studies, Mr. Harris emphasized the need to raise awareness about these contemporary issues and conveyed his conviction that much in this regard needs to be done among our youth. We here at the Center are blessed, indeed, to have the sponsorship of The American Jewish Committee and Saint Leo University providing us the support needed to do such work.
Please note that The American Jewish Committee, West Coast Florida Chapter, is offering another presentation by Benjamin Cohen, AJC Associate Director of Anti-Semitism and Extremism, entitled "The Intellectual Assault on Israel," on the evening of February 21, 2008 from 7:30-9:00 at Temple Beth Sholom in Sarasota. To make a reservation, please contact the AJC West Coast Florida at 941-365-4955.
