| Dear e-Subscriber,
There is a considerable amount of activity scheduled
for these next two months and up into the
first quarter of 2008. At the Center we are particularly
looking forward to assisting our community partner,
the Florida Holocaust Museum with the promotion
of the exhibit 'A Blessing to One Another:
Pope John Paul II & the Jewish People.' We
also have been working hard with the 'Walking
God's Paths' dialogue series and in seeking out ways
to expand its reach. As our e-subscriber
base continues to expand and our website viewership
grows exponentially, it is our hope that the mission of
building mutual respect, understanding and
appreciation between Jews, Catholics and
all people of good will may in fact
be furthered by providing opportunities for
interfaith education and dialogue.

A Blessing to One Another: Pope John Paul II & the Jewish People The Florida Holocaust Museum the Museum
January 12 - April 13, 2008
This extraordinary multi-media, interactive exhibit featuring video footage, scripture, documents and photographs will be coming to Saint Petersburg, Florida. It is the first exhibit of its kind to explain the historical relationship between the Catholic and Jewish faiths.
The exhibit chronicles the Pope's personal and public life and features a time line that easily guides the Museum guests beginning with the Pope's childhood up through World War II. It illustrates the contrast between the Pope, who was forced to study in secret during the night and his Jewish friends who suffered far worse fates. The exhibit takes the viewer through the Pope's rise from priest to bishop and then to cardinal, during which he played a key role in the preliminary changes in relationships between faiths.
Highlights of the exhibit feature period artifacts as well as a replica of Jerusalem's Western Wall, where viewers can write a prayer and place it in the wall. All prayers are collected and ultimately taken to the real Western Wall where they are placed.
Various sponsorship levels are available to help support the Museum in its efforts with this exhibit. For more information, contact the Museum directly by going to 'the Museum' link above. The Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies encourages all its Friends to become involved in this extraordinary undertaking. |
November 5 - Walking God's Paths 6:30 - 8:00 pm Open to the public - no charge
Cannon Memorial Library at Saint Leo University with the Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies is offering a Christian-Jewish Dialogue Event - Walking God's Paths: Common Texts, Different Scriptures.
Both Jews and Christians venerate as sacred scripture texts that were written thousands of years ago in the Land of Israel. This fact links Judaism and Christianity in a way that connects no other two religious communities. However, this commonality can conceal important differences that have often caused conflict between Christians and Jews. Questions such as, "how do the Jewish TANAKH and the Christian Old Testament differ?' and 'how is it that Scripture both unites and divides Jews and Christians?" will be addressed.
Participants will view a 15 minute video session from Boston College's acclaimed
interfaith education series. Walking God's
Paths: Christians and Jews in Candid Conversation.
Following the video. Dr. Michael Tkacik,
Director of Saint Leo University's Master of
Arts in Pastoral Studies, and Rabbi Frank Sundheim,
guest lecturer, will discuss the topic from
both Christian and Jewish perspectives. A question
and answer period will follow.
While seating for this event is free, it is limited. Reserve space by contacting the Center via this special reservation link: |

| Walking God's Paths in Tampa, FL at Congregation Rodeph Sholom & Christ the King Catholic Church
Every seat was taken at the Oct. 11 evening's opening session of Tampa's first clergy-led Walking God's Paths: Christians and Jews in Candid Conversation study group. The respected six session education and dialogue curriculum was developed by Dr. Philip Cunningham and Boston College's Center for Christian-Jewish Learning in partnership with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Council of Synagogues. It drew an enthusiastic response from attendees.
Hosts for the WGP series are Rabbi Marc Sack of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, Father Ralph Argentino of Christ the King Catholic Church and Director of Diaconate Formation for the Diocese of St. Petersburg and Linda Taggart, program chair for the Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies (CCJS). A limited enrollment of 25 members from each congregation filled quickly and a waiting list for a proposed second session for early 2008 has been started.
